The Dog Days Aren't Over

They're just on "paws": new pet hospital in CM, vintage trailer show, coffee party at IKEA, sand castle competition

Hello Back Bay Balllyhoos, happy Friday!

How did we do for our first week of Fall? The people have spoken: per our Neighbor Poll, it is still officially too early for Halloween decor (31% in favor, 69% against). We are starting to feel the first faint bite of fall as we descend into the lower 70s this weekend, but to us, Local’s Summer isn’t a date on a calendar, it’s a state of mind. This weekend, peruse the vintage trailers at the Dunes, cast your vote at the Sand Castle competition and grab some artisan coffee at IKEA (wait, what?).

To our new readers—welcome! The Back Bay Buzz delivers just the right amount of news and events for locals in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. No crime, no politics, no spam—just the good stuff. We scan newspapers, blogs, social media, business journals, and Google alerts so you don’t have to.

In today’s Buzz:

  • Vintage Trailer Rally @ The Dunes

  • WAEV coffee party at IKEA (is this the “soft clubbing” we’ve been hearing about?)

  • Sand Castle Contest

  • Sunset Sessions

  • Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

  • Chili Cook Off

Open Concept Pet Hospital Opens in Costa Mesa

Three cheers for our fur-st responders…

Costa Mesa just got a 24/7 emergency pet hospital with a very un-vet vibe. VEG ER for Pets opened this week at 2800 Harbor Blvd., and the big twist is you’re never separated from your animal—no mysterious “back room.” You walk straight into the treatment area, meet the team within a minute, and stay through X-rays, ultrasounds, even surgery. There’s a lounge with sofas and refreshments instead of a traditional waiting room, plus pull-out beds if you need to stay overnight with your fur kid. Dogs and cats are the mainstay, but they can handle exotics and reptiles, too (their Anaheim Hills sister site once treated a llama). It’s VEG’s second OC location and the whole model is built to lower stress—for pets and the humans who love them.
