Planetarium Reopens at OCC

What if we kissed in the OCC Planetarium…?
Orange Coast College’s Planetarium in Costa Mesa hosted a grand reopening last week on Saturday, March 1st, following an upgrade to its six-projector system. After a temporary closure in January for necessary repairs, the planetarium’s system, which projects images onto a 70-foot dome, is now more advanced than ever, offering sharper and crisper visuals. The reopening event featured free screenings of three films related to earth science, space exploration, and astronomy, including Magic Tree House: Space Mission, Birth of Planet Earth, and Habitat Tierra in both English and Spanish. In addition to the films, there are various activities and exhibits for families, including NASA-style mission coin making, solar telescope viewings, and visits to the Dennis Kelly Aquarium. The community is invited to explore the world of science and astronomy right here in Costa Mesa. Click here for more info.
Famous Eagles Hatch New Brood

What if we kissed in the Jeffrey Pine…? Courtesy of Friends of Big Bear Valley
We know Big Bear isn’t exactly local enough for a local newsletter, but guaranteed your local elementary school student knows Jackie and Shadow, the two eagle influencers that star in our favorite reality TV show: Friends of Big Bear Valley Live Eagle Cam.
Jackie and Shadow, a pair of bald eagles residing near Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains, have become a YouTube sensation, captivating thousands of viewers through the Friends of Big Bear Valley's live-streamed eagle cam that allows viewers 24/7 access to these eagle’s everyday lives. Jackie, believed to be the first eaglet hatched in Big Bear Valley, and her mate Shadow have become local celebrities in Big Bear. Their nest, situated 145 feet high in a Jeffrey pine tree overlooking Big Bear Lake, has been the site of numerous nesting attempts since they paired up in 2017.
Over the years, they've faced challenges, including predators, blizzards and unsuccessful hatches, but have persevered, raising chicks like Simba and Spirit. This week, they welcomed two new eaglets, marking a hopeful turn after previous setbacks. Their journey continues to inspire wildlife enthusiasts worldwide, highlighting both the challenges and resilience of these majestic birds. Welcome to the party, eaglets!!

Lucky Little’s Play Date Brings St. Patrick’s Day Fun to Irvine

Ah yes, cut-roll pool noodle, excellent choice…

A plethora of sensory materials kept things interesting…
Poppy Seed Market in Irvine hosted a lively Lucky Little’s Play Date, organized by The Little Sensory Box Co. The St. Patrick’s Day-themed event featured hands-on sensory bin stations on the patio, where little ones (infants to age five) dug into creative play. For $20, kids got a snack and built their own take-home mini sensory bin, while parents sipped coffee from a pop-up cart. Music kept the energy up, and the setup was impressively clean—especially welcome during flu season. A well-run, charming event that we’d happily attend again! Click here for more info on Poppyseed Market.
