Was That the Coldest Summer Ever?
John Wayne Airport Means Family, Pickleball with Frank, Party at Sherman Gardens

Hello Back Bay Beaux, happy Friday!
We thought we were being cheeky about “no-sky July”, but apparently millions of Californians just lived through the coldest first two months of summer in their lifetime. So it’s not just us, it has been colder than usual. But the dog days appear to be arriving, with upper 70s and mostly sunny skies to accompany the first second weekend in August. Also there’s a full moon on Saturday, which would explain our editor’s erratic behavior.
To the 100ish new readers since our last send—welcome! The Back Bay Buzz delivers just the right amount of news and events for locals in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. No crime, no politics, no spam—just the good stuff. We scan newspapers, blogs, social media, business journals, and Google alerts so you don’t have to.

John Wayne Airport Launches ‘Families on the Fly’

We will not, under any circumstances, pick you up from LAX…
Traveling with kids just got easier at John Wayne Airport. A new TSA program, Families on the Fly, lets families use TSA PreCheck lanes without purchasing passes. These lanes are typically faster and less stressful, helping parents get through security without the usual rush.
The designated family lane is located at Checkpoint B in the central terminal. “With Southern California being one of the top tourist destinations in the U.S. for vacationing families, I’m excited we can now expedite their screening process and enhance their overall airport experience,” said TSA Federal Security Director Jason Pantages. Just add direct flights to Palm Springs and SNA would be perfect…
