Fighter Jets have Left the Chat

No fighter jets at Airshow, Uncle Fluffy coming to Triangle, SNA gets Top Rank

Hello Back Bay Boos, happy Friday!

You know its spooky season when Rogers Gardens opens it’s Christmas Boutique. Seriously, we never got a chance to attend the midnight market. As eager as some businesses are to embrace the busy holiday season, there are still many events like the Pacific Airshow to keep the summer vibes rolling. We just hope you weren’t expecting fighter jets.

To our new readers—welcome! The Back Bay Buzz delivers just the right amount of news and events for locals in Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. No crime, no politics, no spam—just the good stuff. We scan newspapers, blogs, social media, business journals, and Google alerts so you don’t have to.

In today’s Buzz:

No Military Aircraft at Airshow Due to Shutdown

Heads up if you’re going to the Pacific Airshow for the fighter jets: no U.S. military aircraft will appear this year due to the federal shutdown pausing military demos. The show in Huntington Beach still runs Fri–Sun, Oct. 3–5, with a packed slate of civilian and international performances (think vintage warbirds, microjets, specialty teams—and yes, the Goodyear Blimp). Gates open at 9 a.m., showtime around 10:30 a.m., tickets from $40. If jets were your main draw, plan accordingly; if you’re in it for the spectacle, the show goes on.

Uncle Fluffy Coming to Triangle Square

“what in the actual fluff?”

Uncle Fluffy—the viral, jiggly Japanese cheesecake spot—is coming to Triangle Square in late 2025. Expect the signature airy cheesecakes (with rotating seasonal flavors), a lineup of tarts (cheese, chocolate, matcha, mango, pistachio and more), plus macarons and mochi. Drinks run from hot/iced espresso and matcha to blended coffees and fruit smoothies. You’ll find it at street level facing Newport Blvd., between 19th and Broadway. Coastal OC welcomed their first O.C. shop—now Costa Mesa gets its own sugar fix.

John Wayne Ranked Best Airport in America

Nature’s alarm clock

John Wayne Airport just nabbed #1 in customer satisfaction among large airports (J.D. Power 2025)—for the second year in a row. The Santa Ana hub scored top marks for ease of travel, terminal facilities, arrival/departure experience, and overall trust, doubling down on the quick, clean, convenient vibe locals swear by. JWA’s been near the top for years (previous #1s in 2017–18 and again in 2024), and the streak continues—more proof our backyard airport punches way above its weight.
