Hello Back Bay Bebes, Happy Friday!

If you are new here, The Back Bay Buzz is dedicated to bringing you just the right amount of news and events for locals of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa. No crime, politics, spam or boring stuff. We comb through newspapers, blogs, social media google alerts and business journals for the best and latest so you don’t have to.

Bit of a hot week, no? We are galloping into the weekend with a new zest for life as our sunburn from Father’s Day is browning nicely and there are lots of fun things to do around town this weekend (especially if you like dogs and live DJs).

In today’s Buzz:

  • German Shepherd Rescue Summer Bash

  • New Gas Facility proposed in Newport

  • Tiki Weekend @ Landers

  • Pet a Porter Dog Fashion Show

  • Paws on the Patio

Jon Dougher, Publisher, Back Bay Buzz

Kick off your weekend with a good time for a Great Cause! Join the German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County this Saturday at The Ranch at Newport Bay for their Summer Bash event: featuring live music, great food, tequila tasting and games while you meet the beautiful dogs of GSROC. Pet adoption opportunities will be available.

New Gas Facility Proposed In Newport Beach

You know news is slow when we report on natural gas facilities…

Newport Beach may soon be home to a new renewable natural gas (RNG) facility on a 4.14-acre site at the closed Coyote Canyon landfill. The project, led by Archaea Energy in partnership with Orange County Waste & Recycling, would convert landfill gas—currently being flared—into clean, pipeline-quality RNG. Plans include a 38,500-square-foot processing plant and a 6,000-square-foot interconnection station that would feed gas into the SoCalGas network. The proposal requires a Conditional Use Permit due to the site's Open Space zoning, and a public comment period on the environmental review closed in January. The city’s Planning Commission was expected to review the project in May, but the meeting was cancelled. If approved, the facility would help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to California’s clean energy goals.
